Hiking Groppensteinschlucht

On a half hour drive from our Gasthof is the Groppensteinschlucht in Obervellach.

A ‘schlucht’ is gap between two mountains, which has been worn out by water during the years. Especially on a warm day this event is recommended, you hike through the mountains close to a river; just a little direct sunlight and the water make it all very comfortable.

The Groppensteinschlucht  is a very nice hike for the whole family. Off course you need to climb a little, but mostly via a wooden stairconstruction which is build especially for this ‘schlucht’.

The complete hike take about 2,5 hours, and is expandable with a hike to Almgasthof Himmelbauer for a drink, lunch of ice. In the mean time you can enjoy the stunning view into the valley and the place Obervellach.

This expansion is a little more challengin, so some fysical condition is in place. And off course – like with every hike – it is smart to take water and something to eat with you!
